Mark Shavlik is a Microsoft security pioneer, software architect, entrepreneur, and founder of Shavlik Technologies and Senserva. During his career, Mark has held leadership and technical roles at Microsoft, Shavlik Technologies, VMware, and Senserva, helping shape vulnerability assessment, patch management, and Microsoft security.
As a member of the Microsoft Windows NT Kernel team, Mark created HFNetChk and Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA), pioneering technologies that helped organizations identify security vulnerabilities and assess patch compliance. He later founded Shavlik Technologies, which became one of the industry's leading patch management and vulnerability assessment companies.
Mark and his team developed core patch management technologies that were later used in Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). The technologies, designs, and concepts pioneered by Mark and his teams have helped millions of administrators and organizations improve security and manage risk across Windows environments.
Following the acquisition of Shavlik Technologies by VMware, Mark continued advancing enterprise security solutions before founding Senserva, where he now helps organizations secure Microsoft 365 through cloud security automation, deep security assessments, practical remediation guidance, and expert support.
